Merry Christmas!

Writer's picture: Topher WilesTopher Wiles

As tennis is a game that begins at love, so too did your life begin at Love. It was the Love of a caring Creator, a faithful Father, that began your existence. As I grow wiser in years, I've come to know that relationships focused on a love that serves others (another tennis reference) are relationships that honor Him.

Friend, this Christmas, please know that you are loved and share that love with others. This is my prayer for you as it echoes the words of that faithful philosopher of old, Saul of Tarsus, in a letter he wrote to friends in Ephesus.

"For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." - Ephesians 3:14-19

Merry Christmas friend, you are loved.

In Him,

Topher

Family Christmas Responses

What is your favorite part of the Christmas story?

Gabriel: I love the shepherds and angels. It's a direct interaction of the highest of the high with the lowest of the low. It's the nature of God.

Ethan: I love Anna & Simeon in the temple. It was a fulfillment of the promise that God made to Simeon, that he would see the Messiah before the end of days. God is faithful.

Micah: I love the moment the shepherds, who had a really low job, met the angels, who had a very high job. God cares about those with low jobs.

Clara: I love the angel appearing to Mary. You know Mary's a virgin. Then all of a sudden she finds out she's gonna have a baby. I think it's cool.

Ashley: I love the Christmas hymn "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" as it depicts the awe of the shepherds when they encountered God's good news from the angels.

Topher: This year I've enjoyed the prophesy fulfilled as spoken in Matthew 2:6. While Matthew relies heavily on the prophecies of Isaiah (about 700 years before Jesus), this special moment about a Shepherd for His people out of Judah is a gift from my favorite prophet, Micah (same time as Isaiah. This shows God's plan for human salvation as told through many humans to whom He gave a glimpse of hope. In Matthew 2, it is told through the Magi speaking to Herod. Today, through the Bible, we are like Micah and the Magi, except we get even more than a glimpse of hope with the good news of Jesus.
