Serving Pronation & More

A first look at our team photo. Still a little work to go!
A first look at our team photo. Still a little work to go!

Team, thanks for investing time in considering the best serve mechanics today. There are three videos listed below that we looked at in class.

  • How to fix Waiter's Tray

  • Serena Williams Slow Motion

  • Roger Federer Slow Motion

Bonus Video for your learning that shows the wrist angle I demonstrated in class.

Here are examples of players in waiter's tray from photos from the Upperman Match. Waiter's tray happens when our hitting side of our racquet strings face the sky in our preparation for our serve. The wrist lays back and the palm is up. It often happens more when we're nervous and trying to place the ball. It also happens when we hang around others that do it often, then we end up picking up the habit ourselves without knowing it.

Here's a few examples of the ideal serving motion. You'll see the halo or trophy pose that has the hitting side facing down. Then the frame side of the racket is leading up toward the contact point.

Again, I'll be available at 6:30am tomorrow morning if anyone wants extra work.
