White County Rules the Road: A Hwy 111 Takeover

Sparta, TN — It was a 30-mile trek down Highway 111 for the Livingston Academy tennis teams on Thursday night, but the Warriors and Warriorettes made sure the home court was a celebratory atmosphere in this class 1A match up. In a clash of former district rivals, the Sparta squads proved to be moving toward postseason form, taming the Livingston Academy Wildcats with a dominant display of developing skill and strategy.

  • The Warriorettes secured a convincing 6-1 victory, while the Warriors completed a perfect 7-0 sweep of the courts.

Dominance on the Menu

The Sparta squads brought plenty of heat to the court, and according to the scoreboard, they were also serving up some treats. In tennis parlance, several players walked away with "bagels" (8-0 shutouts) and "breadsticks" (8-1 victories).

  • The Bagel Club: Delivering 8-0 masterpieces tonight were Ainslee Goff, Katelyn Howard, Jagger Osborne, and Seth Smith.

  • The Breadstick Brigade: Earning 8-1 wins were Lorelei Bouldin, Katelyn Howard, Ethan Wiles, and Ben Brogden.

The Great Escape

The match of the night featured a thrilling come-from-behind effort in the top seed doubles slot. Lorelei Bouldin and Sadie Benningfield found themselves in a deep 1-5 hole early on. However, a mid-match strategic shift from Coach Amy Hawkins flipped the script. The lead Warriorette duo locked in, dominating seven of the next eight games to storm back for an 8-6 victory that energized the entire Sparta sideline.

More Than Just a Match

While the competitive fire was high, the spirit of the evening remained centered on quality sportsmanship and preparation. Coaches Topher Wiles and Amy Hawkins noted that both teams used the non-district matchup to display the best sportsmanship possible for this game that pushes us to our mental limits.

The evening concluded on a high note—and with full stomachs—thanks to the Benningfield family. Former "Coach B," acting as the team's "Snack Fairy," provided fresh grilled quesadillas for both the Sparta and Livingston players, proving that even the fiercest rivalries can be settled with good food.
