Topher's Notes:
Tournament Days are long days, but good days. Everyone needs an extra measure of patience.
I can't predict the start time of later matches. We don't know if the first round matches will go 25 minutes or 1 hour. We will try our best to keep you informed.
I will be focused on matches on the court trying to gain our players an advantage. If a question doesn't need me directly, for the sake of our students, ask an assistant coach or a parent.
Text Message Thread: Save this for my announcements only during match times. When a player is going on a court, our coaches will use the Text Message Thread and we need to make sure players and parents see that thread.
Parent(s) at Tent: I need a couple of parents to volunteer to trade off tent responsibilities. We need to make sure our students are supervised at all times, hydrating properly, and putting on sunscreen. There is little shade at the Cookeville Community Center.
Emotions: It is an exciting day! Your players will be wrapping on their seasons. All but 4 players in this tournament will end on a loss (we can only have 4 winners), so emotions will be high. Parents, it's not the time to call out form & mistakes. The only thing we can fix at this point is strategy. After the final matches, keep all interaction with your athlete positive. Tennis is hard enough mentally, so focus on encouragement!
Coaches: Myself, Andy, John, and Ethan are all taking the day off of work to be here. Make sure to thank those fellas as they sacrifice for these athletes.
Thank you to Jamie and the ladies who have been figuring out food. I'm grateful!
It's gonna be a good day. White County is going to go deep in this tournament! Tennis starts with Love and is set in motion with Service.
