The White County Middle School tennis program delivered a dominant performance at the District Singles Tournament on Wednesday, demonstrating exceptional depth across all four divisions and bringing home a tournament-best four trophies.

The tournament featured two distinct brackets: Varsity Singles, featuring the top four seeds from each school, and Junior Varsity Singles, comprised of seeds five and below. When the final points were tallied, White County’s combined boys and girls team posted the highest total win count of any school in the district.

Whorton Leads the Charge in Varsity Championship Run

In the Varsity Girls division, Lella Whorton put together a run for the record books. After receiving a first-round bye, Whorton maintained absolute control of the court, navigating her remaining three matches without dropping a single game. Her flawless 6-0, 6-0, and 6-0 victory streak earned her the Varsity Girls Championship title in a perfect three-bagel sweep.

Joining Whorton in the girls spotlight were teammates Sophie Jolly and Amelia Grizzard, who both advanced through their respective sides of the bracket to set up an all-White County final. In a thrilling championship match defined by hustle, determination, and outstanding sportsmanship, rookie Sophie Jolly prevailed 7-5 to capture the JV Girls Championship trophy, with Grizzard earning the JV Girls Runner-Up trophy.

On the boys' side of the Junior Varsity division, Pax Ward delivered strong performances throughout the draw, battling his way to the championship round to capture the JV Boys Runner-Up trophy with Grayson Smith with a strong run into the semi-finals. In the quarter finals of the boys Varsity, teammates Henry Zuber and Micah Wiles met in a worthy battle before Wiles moved on the the semi-finals of the boys Varsity division.
