Today we start tennis training with Emmie! I love starting brand new players near the net for greater success, so today's primary stroke is the forehand volley. Let's go!

Topher’s Tennis Practice #1 with Emmie Benningfield for 05/27/2022

Primary Goals: Learn Proper Stretching, Warmup, Basic Grips, Court Location, & Forehand Volleys

· Stretching (5 mins)

o Static Stretching – Neck, Shoulders, Torso, Legs

o Dynamic Stretching – Carioca’s, Heal/Toes, Lunges, Shuffles

· Warm Up – (10 minutes)

o Ball Bounces – 20 down, 10 up

o Ball Passing

o This lesson can be found on www.tophertennis.net in the “News” section Ladder Basic Footwork

· Game – Mental Movement

o “Topher Says” with Line names & court names, & movement

· Water Break – 2 minutes

· Learn: Grips - Continental, Eastern, Semi-Western, Western

· New Stroke – The Volley Progression Forehand - (20 minutes)

o Grip to be used: Continental

o Feet Position

§ Ready Position

§ Open Stance, Neutral Stance, Closed Stance with cheater step

· Catches, Shadow Swings, Short Feed, Medium Feed

· Fun Team Game – Keep it up (with hands focusing on feet movement) – (10 mins)

· Stretching & Review (3 minutes)

Homework – 1) Learn the names of lines, court areas, & grips. – 2) There are 6 American women who have advanced to the third round of the French Open (Paris) tennis tournament. Pick one to follow for the next week through the rest of the tournament.
