Warriors and Warriorettes Victorious on Court in More Ways Than One with Stone Memorial
CROSSVILLE, TN — It was a night of thrilling rallies and top-tier sportsmanship as the White County High School tennis teams rolled into Stone Memorial for a cross-county clash. When the final volleys were struck, Sparta came out on top, with both the Warriors and Warriorettes securing hard-earned team victories.
Beyond the scores, the evening was defined by class. As the Panthers celebrated their Senior Night with sentimental moments and a fun atmosphere, the White County squads were noted for their kindness, respect, and patience, proving that even while competing, the camaraderie between these "friendly opponents" remains second to none. We were grateful specifically to Stone Memorial coaches Nicole & Eric Masgood for hospitality providing a great atmosphere to grow the joy of tennis.
Be encouraged by this photo captured by Amy Durfee of John, Ethan, Sean, and Brandon taking a moment of prayer to be thankful together after their doubles match showing that our sport can bring competitors together for a bigger purpose.

Warriors on Top in 5-2 Victory
The Men’s team held control as Stone Memorial was missing a key top seed, taking the match with a decisive 5-2 scoreline. The Warriors showed great depth in the singles matches. Ethan Wiles (8-3), Ben Brogden (8-3), and Rhoane Whorton (8-2) all delivered noteworthy performances to put Sparta in the driver's seat.
Perhaps the most thrilling match of the night came at the #1 spot, where John Durfee battled through a marathon set, narrowly falling in a tiebreaker to a worthy Stone Memorial senior, 8-9(5).
The Warriors left no doubt in the doubles matches though, sweeping both sets with 8-2 and 8-1 scores from the duos of Durfee/Wiles and Hawkins/Brogden.
Warriorettes Edge Out 4-3 Thriller
The Women’s match was a certified nail-biter that came down to the wire. With the singles matches split, the Warriorettes displayed ice-cold nerves to clinch the 4-3 team win.
Sadie Benningfield stood tall with an 8-4 victory, while Olivia Flaminio outlasted her opponent in a 9-7 epic that kept fans on the edge of their seats. While Katelyn Howard and Ainslee Goff fought valiantly in close 7-9 and 6-8 losses, the Warriorettes turned the tide in doubles play.
The pairings of L. Bouldin / S. Benningfield and O. Flaminio / K. Howard came out on top, both securing 6-3 wins to lock up the team victory for Sparta.
Extra Match Excellence
The depth of the Sparta program was on full display in the extra matches:
Emmie Benningfield at the 6th seed control her set with a commanding 8-1 win.
The duo of Claire Hawkins and Alivia Davis teamed up for a smooth 6-3 victory.
Avi Rose and Victoria Davis also saw action in a tough 1-6 set, gaining valuable experience on the road.
It was a great night to play tennis with good people in the Upper Cumberland showing that athletic programs can compete at high levels and still have fun with their teammates and opponents! Congratulations to all the athletes on a high-level performance. Congratulations to the 3 Stone Memorial seniors who showed off great tennis tonight.
